NATIC presents its inaugural Texas webinar series for 2018, featuring presentations on probate and intestacy issues, construction lending and insuring home equity loans. Through these timely, one-hour webinars, title agents will learn how to insure a variety of transactions from simple to complex, including common document requirements and tips to make each closing as smooth as possible. NATIC Regional Underwriting Counsel Leslie S. Johnson will discuss transactions with a death in the chain of title and construction lending on residential real property. NATIC Senior Underwriting Counsel Ginny Abiassi will discuss insuring home equity loans in Texas with a special emphasis on the recent Constitutional Amendment allowing the refinance of certain home equity loans as rate and term refinances.

Ginny Abiassi, Esq.

Ginny Abiassi has over 30 years of experience in the title industry, and has underwritten thousands of real estate transactions working as an underwriting counsel for three national underwriters. She also developed Stewart’s Virtual Underwriter portal and served as Senior Vice President, Director of Marketing and Communications and Counsel.  Ginny has been a frequent lecturer on real estate subjects for the State Bar and other groups. As NATIC Regional Underwriting Counsel, she makes underwriting decisions pertinent to writing title insurance on residential and commercial properties in Texas and Oklahoma. Ginny holds a bachelor’s degree from Texas Tech University and Juris Doctor from South Texas College of Law. She is a past director of the Texas Land Title Association and currently serves on the Regulatory, Legislative and Texas Land Title Institute Committees. She also is a member of the Education Committee for the American Land Title Association.
 
Leslie S. Johnson, Esq.
Vice President, Regional Underwriting Counsel, Texas and Louisiana
North American Title Insurance Company
Prior to joining NATIC in 2017, Leslie Johnson practiced law for nearly a decade at Winstead PC in Dallas, representing local, regional and national clients in complex commercial and business cases, including real estate, financial services, and banking and lending disputes. During that time, Leslie also represented NATIC and other title insurance underwriters in numerous claims litigation matters. Leslie has spoken multiple times at the Texas Land Title Institute and serves on the Texas Land Title Association Judiciary Committee.  She has also presented at the Texas Association of Bank Counsel and authored a chapter in the Texas Foreclosure Manual. A graduate of Texas A&M University and Tulane University Law School, she was selected to the 2016 Texas Land Title Association Alex H. Halff Leadership Academy and recognized as a Texas Rising Star in 2016 and 2017.

Ashleigh received her BBA in Business Management with a minor in International Studies from The University of Houston, and she has been in the title industry since 1999. Before joining NATIC, Ashleigh worked for a major national underwriter in various capacities for over 13 years.  Ashleigh is a 2015 graduate of The Texas Land Title Association Alex H. Halff Leadership Academy, board member of Texas Land Title Association Political Action Committee, member of the American Land Title Association Membership Committee, and member of the Commercial Real Estate Women Network.
